What is TMS Therapy?

TMS therapy uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate underactive areas of the brain associated with depression. Many patients with depression experience reduced brain activity in specific regions, and TMS treatment targets these areas, reactivating neural communication. Studies show that TMS therapy can achieve positive responses or full remission in about two out of three patients.

At SageMED, we proudly offer TMS therapy in Bellevue, providing effective solutions for depression and anxiety to patients in the greater Seattle area.

How Does TMS Therapy Work?

TMS therapy uses a magnetic coil to generate pulses targeting specific brain regions, improving communication between neurons. This process restores normal brain function, promoting emotional balance and well-being.

Treatment Schedule

  • 5 days per week for 6 weeks

  • 20 minutes per session

  • 6 taper sessions over the following 3 weeks

TMS therapy is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and allows patients to resume daily activities immediately after treatment.

Potential Side Effects of TMS Therapy

TMS therapy is well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Some patients may experience:

  • Mild headaches

  • Scalp sensitivity

These side effects are usually mild and temporary, resolving within a few hours. Patients are awake and alert throughout the treatment and can drive themselves home afterward.
